Role overview

The Transport Manager role is key to the success of our business and you will represent us to the customer on a daily basis. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of exceptional levels of customer service and ensure the customer receives their deliveries in excellent condition, on time – every time.

How will you contribute?
Ensure Health and Safety compliance and promotion at all times, ensuring responsibility for the safe and legal operation of over 200 core assets
Ensure a positive customer experience is delivered on time each and every delivery
To proactively motivate colleagues to achieve planned targets and deadlines
Ensure company procedures are strictly adhered to
Ensure colleagues are briefed at the start of every shift to communicate planned requirements and provide information on performance, company news and procedures
To ensure drivers are legally compliant (including WTD) at all times
Analyse reports against key performance indicators and advise on action to improve results
Monitor performance, timekeeping, attendance, overtime and sickness levels
Conduct monthly team meetings
Ensure sufficient staffing levels are maintained
Conduct absence reviews, disciplinary, grievance and appeal meetings as required
Help control costs to meet both budget and flexed budget
Implementation and maintenance of best practice value to all aspects of the business with a view to continually improving working practice, profit and efficiency
Lead, motivate, train and develop the team
What will you bring?
Leadership and team management skills and experience with acute awareness and respect for Health & Safety
CPC holder – International
Transport management experience
Ability to build effective relationships with customers and colleagues
Must be able to demonstrate the commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility to be able to respond to seasonal customer demand and see the customer's business from their perspective
Negotiation and influencing skills
An understanding of budgetary implications and their impact on operational KPIs
Experience of Transport Management Systems and Microsoft Office applications
Customer focused with excellent leadership and communication skills
Transport management experience ideally gained within a large-scale DC operation-desirable
Ability to provide budgetary and financial awareness and be able to work within a closed book environment-desirable
Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation-desirable
Experience dealing with disciplinary, grievance and absence management procedures-desirable
Experience of creating a strong culture of Continuous Improvement-desirable
You must be able to work shifts as necessary to ensure the effective running of the contract.
