Purchasing Manager
We have been retained to find a Purchasing Manager for one of our Clients based in Carrington, Greater Manchester.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Purchasing Manager will lead a small team to manage the purchasing function of a state of the art manufacturing plant. Working closely with the Maintenance, Production and Financial Teams you will be responsible for the procurement of materials, services and management of the stores and spare parts. The PM will also be responsible for keeping up to date with any legal changes which could impact the business.
There is quite an extensive need for a strong understanding of maintenance and engineering materials and therefore we are looking for someone who has a background aligned with this need.
The Purchasing Manager would need to…

Promote site H&S standards and challenge where necessary.
Ensure awareness of current legislative and statutory requirements to maintain site compliance
Follow the site environmental procedures, practices and propose improvements.
Report any problems and issues immediately following site procedures.
Take a Continuous improvement/lean approach to internal processes to improve outgoing quality.
Application of Group Purchasing Policy and Strategy ensuring the compliance with the Procurement Procedure.
Lead and manage the purchasing groups of your responsibility (mainly: Investments, Equipment, Spare parts, CAPEX)
Manage and control all the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on the purchase of materials and finished parts for production.
Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production.
Establish strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned to the company's needs.
Identify new suppliers, agree terms and negotiate supply agreements where appropriate.
Foster close working relationships with associated departments e.g. Engineering and Production.
Undertake supplier visits both in the UK and abroad. Such visits may be at very short notice.
Meet and exceed KPI’s and objectives whilst setting the KPI’s for the function
Identify purchases opportunities and coordinate the strategy with European colleagues
To carry out RFQs for Capex, Materials and services
Management reporting
Manage global suppliers evaluation
People Management
Management of spare parts/stores and other allocated contractors
Gatekeeper for the onsite Contractor Management System  
Recommended Personal Profile

Degree or HNC in an Engineering discipline
Professional Purchasing Qualification (eg;CIPS)
At least 5 year experience as a Technical Buyer in a multinational industrial company with experience buying mainly capital equipment, spare parts
Proven track record of controlling & reducing external spend whilst developing a robust supplier base
Ability to travel across Europe
SAP/SRM Experience
Ability to engage a cross functional team towards a desired outcome.
People management and development.

Analytical thinking.
Strong leadership, problem solving and analytical skills.
Ability to organize and plan use of time and people effectively, efficiently and to work with conflicting priorities
