Lab technician – Downstream and Analytical – Manchester

The Client
Our client is facilitating the transition of the $36 billion surfactant market from harmful, oilbased chemicals to biobased alternatives by working with the current market leaders to provide a collaborative production platform.
The company is currently completing the build of its pilot facility launching tonne scale production of sophorolipids and work with multiple industrial partners to take the product to market. In line with this, they are fundraising to build their first ktonne scale commercial sophorolipid plant.
This highly successful business is expanding its focus beyond sophorolipids and developing processes to produce additional biosurfactants in collaboration with external market facing partners.

The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for helping maintain the day-to-day function of
The company’s laboratory in Manchester. This will include, but it is not limited to, preparing and processing analytical samples, calibrating equipment, performing downstream processing and quality control checks. The role will involve working with the process development and production teams and supply chain to ensure that the whole process provides products with suitable properties for a range of applications and industries.
Previous Knowledge and ExperienceWe are seeking highly motivated technicians who want to challenge themselves and others and fit well with the company philosophy, and first and foremost, get things done! The individual should have:
Essential:
Experience of running daily laboratory operations
Experience preparing chemical stock solutions and buffers
Experience preparing samples for analytical processing, e.g., HPLC.
Experience in routine operation of analytical equipment or techniques such as HPLC and/or solvent extractions
Proactive in ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently according to protocol
Experience of downstream separation processes at laboratory scale and/or at pilot or industrial scale
Willing and capable of effectively cross-pollinating skills with the wider team.
Desirable:
Handyperson skills
Experience of working in a Lean Lab environment
Experience in autoclave operation
Familiar with method development and validation
Experience of preparing and/or running bioreactors for fermentation processes
Knowledge of surfactant behaviour, in particular phase behaviour
UK driving licence
